Colour-matching a topper: getting it invisible

Colour is where toppers are won or lost. Here is how a professional match works — and why we insist on doing it in person.

Matched to your lengths, not your roots

A topper lies over your own hair, so it must match the hair it lies on — your mid-lengths and ends, which are usually lighter and warmer than the roots. Matching from a root shade (or from a phone photo) is the classic mistake behind toppers that "almost" match.

Hair shade range from black to blonde

The shade range — from natural black to light blonde, with everything between.

Greys, highlights and dimension

Real hair is never one colour. A believable match reproduces your percentage of grey — often different at the temples than the crown — and the dimension of any highlights or balayage. Because HEADS toppers are made in our own ateliers, we can blend shades strand by strand rather than picking the nearest stock colour.

Daylight, always

Indoor lighting flatters and lies; daylight tells the truth. At your consultation we match against your own hair at a window, check the match at the parting and the lengths, and only then confirm the formula.

If you colour your hair

Tell us your routine. We match your coloured shade, and when you refresh your colour, the topper can be professionally adjusted to follow — human hair takes colour like your own. Between salon visits, the topper actually keeps your look more consistent, since it does not fade at the same rate as chemically treated hair.

Why this matters more than anything

Density can be adjusted and clips repositioned — but a colour that is visibly off can never blend. It is the single strongest reason to have a topper matched in person rather than ordered from a chart. The consultation is free, and you will see the difference in the mirror before you decide anything.

The easiest way to know what suits you: a free colour-match consultation at our Greenbelt studio in Makati — try toppers on, see yourself in daylight, no obligation.
